As such, when he is not attending to his gleaning duties, one may find him tucked away within the wilderness of any given region to observe whatever fauna are native to it. During these times, he often will lounge in the boughs of trees while idly sketching away in his journal.๐ถ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐โฆ Though Nil couldn't quite be labelled a carpenter, he does enjoy whittling, and he's quite good at it. He most often tends to make whistles of various shapes, designs, and typesโthe vast majority of his little wooden creations tend to mimic animal cries. If he's not sketching in his spare time, he's whittling.๐ถ ๐

๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐โฆ Like other Viera that meander across Eorzea, Nil is far from home. One might think him to be of Rava heritage if his dark skin-tone in particular is considered, but that could not be farther from the truth. Posing him questions in relation to whence he came or about locations like the Golmore Jungle or the Skatay Range will earn little more than irritation and confusion. Where does this man come from, then?

๐ถ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐โฆ Some time ago, Nil had been employed by the Studium to care for its beastsโwhether they were domestic, wild, or arcaneโas a veterinarian. However, after holding that position for a few years, he left it to pursue capturing the specimens as a gleaner, though as to why isn't quite known. Perhaps it had been that he wasn't fond of Studium's policies or how some specimens were presented upon delivery. It may have also been that he tired of being sequestered within the city of Sharlayan day in and day outโwhatever the reason, he usually doesn't elaborate. These days, he travels the realm over and he is quite content in doing so.๐ถ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ & ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐โฆ Despite his penchant for keeping solitude during his travels, Nil had once been often sighted alongside a man that, in both physical appearance and personality, seemed to be his contrary. While both individuals do share a certain reticence in their respective natures, they have managed to become close companions in conversation and on the road. Recently, however, Nil has returned a more solitary stateโhis friend is seemingly absent.

๐ถ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐โฆ Nil isn't one to shy away from dirty work if it means lining his pocketsโthough he does draw the line at human trafficking or cold-blooded murder. Prior to his stint as a veterinarian, he had worked as a sort of freelance mercenary for Limsa Lominsa's underground. Most of his odd jobs included smuggling, reconnaissance, and occasional theft. While those sorts of activities aren't his primary source of income these days, he still participates in them from time to time. He will speak to otherwise, though.๐ถ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐โฆ Shadows lurk in his peripheries, ghostly hands reaching for him only to disappear when he turns toward them. Were they ever there? His pulse quickens, his breathing comes to him in shuddering, shallow gasps. Too many times had he been subjected to harrowing experiences while he yet lived with his clan, in that dense forest so far away now. In response to those waking nightmares, he fled. Yet, no matter how far he runs, his past haunts him.

Simply, the Daqo worship death. This detached, esoteric clan of Veena Viera believe it to be the culmination of a mortal's life whereupon said mortal achieves oneness with the realms that encompass reality. Thus, it is sacred. When granted permission by fellow Dravanian clans and other local settlements, a representative of the Daqo will visit whenever an individual dies to ferry the body back to their caverns for burial. These caverns are ostensibly a network of catacombs, and it is legend that, the farther and deeper one travels within the caves of the Daqo, the closer they move toward the Underworld...
๐๐๐๐๐โฆ As stated above, death is sacred to the Daqo. When a Dravanian native dies, they will arrive, wreathed in flowing robes of black and silver, to ferry their body back to their caverns. There, their corpse will be tended to with utmost reverence in preparation for burial. There are many niches within the Daqo caverns. A great number of them are already claimed.๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐โฆ If there is bad blood between individuals or groups, it will not become a preoccupation of the Daqo. Theirs is to tend to the dead and naught more. Even if a member of the Daqo is attempted to be drawn into an argument or fight, they will defend themselves with abjuration magicks in the most necessary of situations.๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐โฆ Mortals are simply that: mortal. To believe otherwise is folly. There is a force greater than oneself, there is more beyond what can be seen or felt or heard. The Daqo know this, and they know the twin deities that rule of the realms of life and death. Whenever twins are born into the clan, they are treated with particular deference.
๐๐๐๐๐-๐๐๐๐๐๐๐โฆ In their day-to-day, one of the most prominent activities of the Daqo is grave-tending. The graves within the caverns are initially created via hollowing out a selection of cave wall by way of stone-shaping magicks, and then the bodies of the deceased are carefully housed within these niches. The entrance to each grave is sealed again utilizing the aforementioned magicks. Thereafter, in front of every grave, set upon the cavern floor, a relevant offering is made to whomever is housed within the niche.๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐โฆ Moreso as a hobby, the Daqo enjoy stone-carving. Living their lives in a seemingly never-ending cavern provides them with a seemingly never-ending supply of rock and minerals. The Daqo will use these ample materials in the crafting of anything from evil-repelling wards to novelty trinkets.๐๐๐๐๐๐-๐๐๐๐๐๐๐โฆ After the dead are tended to and offerings imparted, the shamans of the Daqo will enter an affected state so as to cross the veil separating this world and the next. The primary purpose for this practice is to view the memories of the dead and record anything of import, their findings scrawled upon scrolls of parchment. In this way, the Daqo have effectively become a written repository of history, witnesses to lives once lived. There is a vault within the caverns where these innumerable scrolls are stored, but only a select few Daqo are permitted entrance to it.๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐โฆ The Daqo can be considered single-minded creatures, their dedication to their objectives bordering on obsessionโtheir entire culture revolves around their religion, after all. And so, sometimes feasting upon the memories of Dravanian natives does not always sate their appetite. Occasionally, a pair of Daqo representatives will take leave of the sanctity of their caverns to approach remote villages in other sections of the realm to broker deals. In request for taking away the dead in which belong to the village, they will offer something in return. Simply ask, and the Daqo will provide. They've the knowledge and means to procure what it is that is wanted... within reason, of course.
๐๐๐๐โฆ The eyes of Daqo trend toward earthern tones and neutral colors including browns, grays, and coppers. Their eyes also feature vertical-slit pupils as they've long adapted to navigating the lightless depths of their caverns.๐๐๐๐โฆ The Daqo most often bear charcoal-colored skin.๐๐๐๐โฆ Identical to their skintone, their hair is also dark in color, commonly presenting as deep browns or blacks.๐๐๐๐โฆ The Viera of the Daqo clan possess tall, lagomorph ears as typical for their race. Some particular individuals bear dark spots toward the tips of these ears. Nil himself has them.๐๐๐๐๐โฆ Rather than nails, the Daqo possess thick, sharp claws.๐๐๐๐๐โฆ The cuspids of a Daqo lengthy, narrow, and sharpโfeline, in nature.
